September 7, 2017: The Women’s Sports Foundation supports Title IX, and the rights and protection afforded to all students—student-athletes included—by this critical piece of legislation. Secretary Betsy DeVos’ decision to open up Title IX for changes, rather than enforce the law which protects the civil rights of all students, is troublesome and threatens to reverse our forward progress as a nation.
The regulations as they now exist empower students to speak up. Students should continue to come forward and not be forced back into the shadows. Colleges and universities should use resources to uphold the civil rights and dignity of our sons and daughters.
