Ashley Fiolek

Motocross

Making history in being the first woman member of the Honda Red Bull Racing team and steering a factory prepped CRF25OR are just some of the opportunities that many motocross racers can only dream about, but for Ashley Fiolek this is a reality. She is considered to be a trailblazer for women in motocross. Fiolek has won three AMA/WMA titles. In the 2009 and 2010 X games Ashley also earned gold medals.

Despite being deaf Fiolek does not let this ailment stop her. In fact she looks at as a competitive advantage. Using the vibrations of her bike to determine where to shift gears, Fiolek has amazed even the most seasoned veterans in motocross. Through the support of her family from her amateur days to now her professional ones Ashley continues to soar in the motocross world.

 Awards

Fiolek has been nominated for an ESPN ESPY award twice in 2009 and 2011. She was nominated for the award “Best Female Action Sports Athlete.” In 2010 she was honored for The Courage in Sports Award. This award recognizes athletes that have demonstrated extraordinary courage, spirit and perseverance in the face of adversity in order for them to succeed in their respective sport.

Philanthropic Work

In 2010 Fiolek participated in the MX for Children “Giving Thanks” charity auction. Here she auctioned off her autographed helmet in order to help raise money for the charity’s 2010 theme which was “Helmets for Hydro.” The money that was raised went directly to the Hydrocephalous research at several hospitals across the U.S. and Canada. Additionally she is a active member of the Womens Sports Foundation Athlete Advisory Board.


Fiolek is an ambassador for women action sports but she is also a leader and a hero for many in the deaf community. She is regularly visiting schools for the deaf and meeting with young people. She has proven to be an example that although you may have a disadvantage you can still overcome that obstacle.
