Each year, the Women’s Sports Foundation celebrates the incredible performances of an individual sport athlete and a team sport athlete at the Annual Salute to Women in Sports Awards gala. As we prepare for this year’s Annual Salute and a new group of highly talented and inspirational women take to the stage, we decided to reflect back on those who have come before.
Congratulations to all those who won awards at the 2015 ESPYs on Wednesday, June 15, 2015. Being recognized for one’s accomplishments is an incredible honor, and there were so many deserving women able to experience that at the ESYPYs last night. The best athletes in the world hit the Los Angeles red carpet for the event, hosted by Joel McHale, as well as countless superstars including the former Yankee great Derek Jeter, Halle Berry and Britney Spears.

The ANNIKA Inspiration Award is our award given annually, in partnership with golf star Annika Sorenstam’s ANNIKA Foundation, to a young female athlete who not only excels in her sport, but demonstrates leadership, provides inspiration for others and gives back to her community.
Four of 25 candidates for Sports Illustrated’s coveted Sportsman of the Year award are female athletes — and three have already been honored by the WSF as Sportswoman of the Year award finalists.
