For years, the Women’s Sports Foundation has been involved with the International Working Group on Women in Sport (IWG) and has attended every conference since their inception in 1994. WSF is also a proud signatory on the Brighton Declaration and continues to participate in ways to provide access to sport for all girls around the world.
On May 17-20, 2018, the 7th World Conference on Women and Sport will be held in Gabarone, Botswana offered by the International Working Group for Women and Sport. The IWG was created following the inaugural international conference held in Brighton, England in 1994. The primary purpose of the IWG is to track the progress of the Brighton Declaration (now the Brighton Plus Helsinki Declaration), which sets out the principles that will lead to equity for women in sport internationally. Today, more than 400 organizations, such as the WSF, the International Olympic Committee, FIFA, and uncountable national Olympic Committees and National Governing Bodies, have signed the Declaration. The Declaration’s promises have led to many great strides forward for women’s sport.
We are pleased the share that registration for the 7th World Conference as well as exciting related side events is currently available. More important yet, if you, or organizations you represent, have an inspiring and/or innovative story to tell concerning women’s sport advocacy, please take the opportunity to submit an application to be a presenter. Your program could be a workshop, a panel of themed presentations, a short individual presentation or a poster. The topic should fit generally within the topical areas outlined in the sub-themes described here.
We encourage every individual to attend if at all possible. If you have an interest in adding an international aspect to your own personal development OR the outreach of a club or organization with which you are involved, you need to be in attendance at the sound of the opening gavel. It will be an unforgettable experience on that you can count.
