Heinz Field will Host the 2012 SilverSport WFA National Championship
On Saturday August 4, the Pittsburgh Passion will host the 2012 Breaking Barriers Festival at Heinz Field, where the SilverSport Women’s Football Alliance (WFA) National Championship will take place. This marks the first women’s championship to ever be hosted at an NFL stadium. In the year of both the 40th Anniversary of Title IX and the 40th Anniversary of the Immaculate Reception -- one of the most famous plays in football history conducted by the Steelers -- together they will be celebrated by breaking even more barriers.
The event will have a VIP Reception for sponsors, executives and athletes, as well as a Fan Fair. Additionally, the 2012 SilverSport WFA National Championships will be played, followed by the Pro Football Hall of Fame presentation in which two Pittsburgh Steelers will be inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame.
ESPN3 will cover the Championship, allowing for 73 million homes nationally and 21 million college students and military personnel to watch the game. The game can be viewed online at WatchESPN.com, as well as on smartphones and Xbox Live. espnW will also provide coverage of the groundbreaking event.
The heightened media attention will introduce new viewers to the Women’s Football Alliance, an American football league that consists of 62 teams. The full-contact league is the fastest growing professional sports organization in the United States and will continue to make great strides after the event on August 4.
