Sydney Sachs: Final Thoughts

Sydney Sachs is a 17-year-old high school senior from Chicago, Illinois. A former member of the U.S. Rhythmic Gymnastics national team for six years, Sachs has since turned her attention toward academics and preparing for college. Not one to be away from physical activity for long, Sachs came to us and asked about running her own GoGirlGo! program for underserved girls in Chicago. In a new weekly blog series, guest-blogger Sachs will share her experience as she teaches our award-winning GoGirlGo! curriculum, with a focus on rhythmic gymnastics, of course, to a group of Chicago girls. Her sixth and final blog:

Even though today was the last session, I would have to say I enjoyed it the most. Today we had Destiny, 11, lead our warmup. It was the most amazing thing to watch. She knew every exercise along with EVERY correction I made! She was able to point out the flaws of the other girls an maintained amazing leadership the entire time. We also had each girl go on the stage of the auditorium and perform their favorite trick with their favorite equipment. It nearly brought tears toy eyes to see how much they've learned in such a short time. They enjoyed showing their skills and showed amazing improvement. After each performance, every girl got a certificate congratulating them on their success with GoGirlGo!.

This experience has been absolutely nothing but wonderful the entire time! I have enjoyed every second of it and I learned just as much as the girls did. I want to thank GoGirlGo! for this opportunity and I cannot wait to hopefully start a new program soon!

GoGirlGo!, the Women's Sports Foundation's award winning curriculum and sports education program, works to improve the health of sedentary girls and to keep girls involved in physical activity by supporting programs and organizations that work with girls. Learn more here.

Get a Girl Going showcases top-notch GoGirlGo! organizations

Last month, our GoGirlGo! programs in Atlanta, Chicago and Seattle launched their first Get a Girl Going contests. This innovative and interactive grant program was designed to encourage organizations in the three communities to demonstrate their ability to deliver girls’ sports and physical activity programs. The contest invited organizations to submit online applications describing how they planned to have girls in their community live healthier, more active lifestyles.
