ESPN3 Will Launch espnW Channel on Title IX Anniversary

On Saturday, June 23, the 40th anniversary of Title IX, ESPN3 will have an channel dedicated to only live women’s sports events. A proud WSF partner, espnW will display 170 hours of women’s sports events from the June 23- kick off until July 31, all on espnW.com.

Laura Gentile, Vice President of espnW said, “espnW’s digital offerings continue to expand and an espnW-branded channel for live events is a logical extension, enabling us to further elevate women’s sports while serving passionate fans.”

The programming will consist of WNBA, USA Basketball and AAU High School basketball games. There will also be broadcasts of the AAU Junior Girls National Volleyball Championships, USA Softball games, World Cup of Softball and National Pro Fastpitch matchups. For tennis fans, Wimbledon coverage, as well as the U.S. Open and the Mercury Insurance Open, will be offered. Last but not least, the U.S. Women’s Golf Open and X Games Los Angeles events will also be available to viewers.

The launch of espnW is a necessary step towards the progression of women’s sports, as there is currently no network with continuous live coverage of women’s sports. There is no better way to honor Title IX’s 40th anniversary than to watch women participate and get attention in their sports, privileges that 40 years ago were simply not a reality for millions of women.
