To some, it might seem a little strange that Team WSF runner Nancy Heffernan is taking on the New York City Marathon. She already has achieved athletic success at the highest level in a sport that takes place not on land, but on water. And she finds running mentally challenging, admitting she must create small head games and benchmarks to get through tough long runs. But to Heffernan, the thrill she gets from training and competing in the 26.2-mile competitions makes the hard work with it.

Introducing: Judy Cody

Judy Cody, a Pennsylvania mother of four boys, knows what it’s like to be challenged to put herself on a long list of priorities. After successfully finishing her first marathon in 1992 and describing the experience as “one of the best feelings in my life,” she tackled the 26.2-mile race again in 2007. Cody, a consultant who was working long days and nights while attempting to be dedicated to training, knew she couldn’t commit to another race of marathon-magnitude while working full-time.

Introducing: Sarina Sigel

Team WSF Marathoner Sarina Siegal’s love affair with physical fitness and health began in 1993, when she was a young professional New Yorker looking to have a few extra dollars in her wallet. After becoming a certified physical trainer and aerobics instructor, Siegal was challenged by a friend to run the New York City Marathon in 1994. She completed the race and has been hooked ever since. To date, Siegal has completed 11 marathons, three Iron Man Triathlons and countless half-marathons and 10-k races.
