The media shapes our perceptions of what the female athlete looks like – who she is – whether or not her power is beautiful. On Tuesday, April 15, Sharon Osbourne, Master P, Sir Elton John, Women's Sports Foundation CEO, Karen Durkin (pictured), Billie Jean King and a host of champion female athletes gathered in Beverly Hills to celebrate those members of the media who are doing right by the female athlete.

The Evening's Awards:
Journalism: (Newspaper, Television, Non-Fiction Books, Radio and Internet) – Individuals are judged based on their insightful portrayal of women in sports, originality and overall quality of work.
Entertainment: (Film, Television, Documentary, Fiction Books, Internet and Gaming) – Nominees are judged on their insightful portrayal of women in sports, impact, originality and overall quality of work.
Breakthrough and Innovation: (Television, Magazine, Documentary, Film, Books, Radio, Photography, Internet, Advertising Campaigns and other media) – Submissions are judged based on innovation, impact and relevance. Images and portrayals must be responsible and challenge the status quo of women/girls as athletes.
Industry Leader – This award is given to an individual who has propelled the female athlete, girls’ participation in sports and physical activity, and/or the significant issues affecting participation into living rooms, on computer screens, movie screens, billboards, newspapers and/or magazines.
Outstanding Journalist (Commentators and Journalists) – This award is given to a woman who, over a significant period of time, has excelled in covering sports. By commentating or writing about sports, this individual has asserted herself as a role model in the sports media that women aspire to emulate.
