The Billies 2008

The Third Annual Billies happened Tuesday, April 15, at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif. The evening played host to Hollywood celebrities and champion athletes, including figure skater Michelle Kwan and soccer phenomenon Julie Foudy, while honoring positive portrayals of female athletes in the media. Images from the 2008 Paralympic Games

More than 4,200 athletes with disabilities gathered in Beijing from September 6-17 to compete in the 2008 Paralympic Games. With several countries competing in the Paralympic Games for the first time and the use of the same outstanding venues used for the Olympic Games, International Paralympic Committee President Philip Craven declared the Games "the greatest Paralympic Games ever." The Paralympic Games are elite sport events for athletes from six different disability groups and emphasize the participants' athletic achievements rather than their disability.

The 2nd Annual Foundation YAS-A-THON

The 2nd annual YAS-A-THON went off without a hitch! With more than 35 people participating and a silent auction, we raised close to $30,000 in three short hours! Once again the vibe at the event was great, and all the spinners were so excited to be helping raise money for the Foundation.

2008 ESPYs

The 2008 ESPYs were held at NOKIA Theatre on July 16, 2008 in Los Angeles, California. The ESPYs honor excellence in men's and women's sports throughout the year.

The Women's USA Softball Team Visits DC

The nation's capital was the host of some great women's sports events this weekend and the Foundation was lucky enough to be involved! On Saturday, we headed on down to Bowie, MD to help support the Women's USA Softball team as they took on defending NPF Champions, the Washington Glory in front of a crowd of over 8,500. On Sunday, we picked up seven members of the USA Softball team including and made our way to the brand new Nationals Park to attend the Washington Nationals game.

2008 International Women’s Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

On June 9, 2008, the Women’s Sports Foundation welcomed members and new inductees into the International Women’s Sports Hall of Fame to the Hall’s new home within the Billie Jean King International Women’s Sports Center, part of the Sports Museum of America in lower Manhattan. Sports Museum of America Grand Opening

On May 7, 2008 the Sports Museum of America officially opened to the public.  The opening celebrations included events attended by a myriad of athletes.  Many of these athletes dropped by the Billie Jean King International Women's Sports Center in the Sports Museum of America to check out their exhibit.  To read more about the opening, click here.

Inside the Billie Jean King International Women's Sports Center

After years of work the Women’s Sports Foundation is proud to announce the opening of its new gallery, the Billie Jean King International Women’s Sports Center, in the Sports Museum of America in May of 2008. The Sports Museum of America is located at 26 Broadway in Manhattan. This gallery, dedicated to equal play, will feature the stories of outstanding female athletes and coaches and those who inspire them.  For more information on visiting the Sports Museum of America, please click here
