Baseball
Although baseball is supposedly America's favorite past time, we rarely hear of women (over half of the population) taking part. This has not always been the case. Women found themselves in the limelight of baseball over 50 years ago playing in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League in 1943. The league was created in order to keep baseball ticket sales up because men were being drafted to war and the pressure to keep major league ball parks rollin' was intense. History has not been lost. Although softball is a more popular bat sport for females, women do play baseball. The field and the rules for the women's game are the same as the men's game. Baseball is played on a large, diamond-shaped field by two teams with nine players each. Each game lasts nine innings (unless the game is tied) and the object of the game is to score as many runs as possible in one inning before incurring three outs. The offensive team is at bat, or hitting, and the defensive team is in the field.
