Aikido
Aikido, a Japanese martial art, was developed from jiu-jitsu. Fairly new to the United States, this sport is targeted toward self-cultivation and improvement, and is not primarily focused on combat. It can, however, be considered as a means of self-defense. The goal in aikido is to throw the opponent to the floor or to attack her at her weakest point. Aikido teaches one to deal with several opponents at a time through various skill and technique activities. Students must be alert not just to the front but to all sides, as well as their back side. This is a challenging sport that takes the joint locks and throws from jiu-jitsu and combines them with the body movements of sword and spear fighting. Aikidoists believe true victory is self-victory. Are you up to the challenge?
