The Annenberg Space for Photography and Women's Sports Foundation partner in Sports Photography Premiere

Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Jessica Mendoza and women athletes to appear in new “SPORT: IOOSS & LEIFER” Exhibit, opening November 14, 2009

(November 13, 2009, Los Angeles, Calif.) The Annenberg Foundation will introduce its third exhibit, entitled “SPORT: IOOSS & LEIFER,” to the Annenberg Space for Photography on Saturday, November 14, 2009, which will feature an accompanying lecture series in partnership with the Women’s Sports Foundation. The four-month display collection consisting of more than 80 photographs will expose visitors to the artistry of sports through the eyes of two preeminent sports photographers, Walter Iooss and Neil Leifer. The Women’s Sports Foundation is proud to partner with the Annenberg Foundation and is excited about the incredible exposure the exhibit will achieve for both women’s and men’s sports icons.

Guests will embark on a visual journey of some of the most memorable athletes including Wilma Rudolph, Serena Williams and Michelle Kwan, and most memorable moments in sports history including Muhammad Ali’s victory over Sonny Liston and Michael Jordan in full glory. An added digital feature presentation will display photographs, interviews and commentaries from athletes such as six-time Olympic medalist and Women’s Sports Foundation’s International Women’s Sports Hall of Fame member, Jackie Joyner-Kersee. The exhibit will give the public new insight into the remarkable power, poise, and strength it takes to be an elite athlete and will showcase these top athletes as heroes and role models that have helped shape American society over the last several decades.

In addition, the free IRIS NIGHTS lecture series, held inside the Photography Space on Thursday evenings, will feature the photographers Walter Iooss and Neil Leifer, sports commentators, and Women’s Sports Foundation Presidents: Aimee Mullins (past), Jessica Mendoza (current), and Laila Ali (president-elect). Additional programs related to the event include: a themed group slide show evening, photography workshops and a family event.
