Gatorade and the Women's Sports Foundation® announce recipients of the 2007 GoGirlGo! Ambassador Team Awards

And the Winners are…

EAST MEADOW, NY, June 14,2007 – The Women's Sports Foundation and Gatorade are pleased to announce the 2007 recipients of the GoGirlGo! Ambassador Team Awards. Teams of high school-aged girls across the country applied for one of 20 $2,500 GoGirlGo! Ambassador Team Awards grants in order to support their girls' sports and physical activity programming. Each team will use its grant to buy equipment, purchase new uniforms, pay for transportation or to cover tournament entry fees. Teams were charged with organizing a community service project to get girls involved in sports and physical activity. A total of $50,000 in grants was awarded.

"The Women's Sports Foundation salutes the winners of the 2007 GoGirlGo! Ambassador Team Awards," stated Aimee Mullins, Women's Sports Foundation President. "These girl-serving organizations truly showcase what the GoGirlGo! program represents. Their efforts to help get girls physically active and make healthy choices will make a noticeable difference not only in their local communities, but across the country."

“Gatorade is proud to honor the 2007 GoGirlGo! Ambassador Team Award recipients for the inspiration and examples of leadership these young female high school teams have shown to young girls in their communities,” said Cindy Alston, Chief Marketing Officer for Gatorade & Propel. "Ambassador is such a unique program because it showcases the value of mentoring and the importance of physical activity."

We applaud the 219 teams that applied for their outstanding efforts in getting more girls to become physically active. Thanks to their efforts more girls will be active and have a healthier heart, stronger bones, less chance of cancer and diabetes, and more fitness, stamina and flexibility. We hope that all of the Women's Sports Foundation's high school Ambassadors will continue being active role models and encouraging girls to reach their full potential on and off the field. We thank all the teams for participating and being true Ambassadors!
