Elaine Youngs/ Beach Volleyball

Elaine Youngs, who won a bronze medal for the United States this summer in Athens also won Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) tournaments in Norway and China, plus Association of Volleyball Professional's (AVP) events at Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, San Diego and Belmar, NJ. She was also named the AVP most valuable player and top offensive athlete on the AVP Tour in 2002. That same year, Youngs won four FIVB world tour events in three European countries. In 2001, she won five FIVB tournament titles and four the year prior on the Beach Volleyball America tour. Teamed with Liz Masakayan, Youngs won the Oldsmobile Beach Volleyball Olympic Challenge Series event twice in 1999. In 1997, they also captured two Women's Professional Volleyball Association event titles. Youngs was also a member of the 1996 USA indoor Olympic team. Youngs was a four-year starter and All-American on the women's volleyball team at UCLA and helped lead the team to the NCAA title in 1991. She remains ranked among the school's career leaders in kills, digs and aces since graduating in 1993. Youngs also lettered in basketball for two years while enrolled at UCLA. (8/04)
