Kathy Smith, a fixture in the fitness industry for more than 25 years, has produced and starred in more than 40 fitness videos and has more than 400,000 books in print worldwide. She has sold more than $50 million in infomercial products and $16 million from 26 of her award-winning videos, placing her in the Video Hall of Fame. Her most recent venture, Project: YOU!, is a 12-week weight loss, health and fitness system for men and women. Smith was instrumental in the creation of Podfitness, a system that builds custom-tailored audio workouts and is downloadable to MP3 players for a fun, effective workout. Smith’s work was honored by the government when she was recognized as a "Healthy America Fitness Leader" with the President's Council on Physical Fitness. Other honors Smith has achieved include the IDEA Lifetime Achievement award from IDEA Health and Fitness and being granted the Alumni Hall of Honor Award by the University of Hawaii School of Business in recognition of her success. Reaching out to as many Americans as she can, Smith turned to writing a nationally syndicated news column and for Self Magazine. Smith works to promote sports and fitness for America’s younger generations as the spokesperson for the National Recreation and Parks Association and National Milk Mustache “Got Millk” campaign. She served as a celebrity spokesperson for the March of Dimes in 1999 and was a member of the Women's Sports Foundation's Board of Trustees from 1993 to 1996. Her company, Kathy Smith Lifestyles, established a scholarship fund for promoting girls’ sports and fitness through the Foundation in the name of her two daughters - the Katie and Perrie Fund. Smith became a member of the Women's Sports Foundation Board of Stewards in 1996 and currently serves on the board of the University of Southern California School of Gerontology. (8/08)
