Charmaine Reid started playing badminton in her backyard with her family and has continued competing since then, competing in the 2004 Olympics Games in Athens, winning many competitions along the way. In 2006, Reid, along with her badminton partner, Helen Nichol, made it to the quarterfinals of the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia. A member of the Canadian national team since 1995, Reid has represented Canada at six world championship games (1995, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2003 and 2005). In 2005, Reid and Nichol won the women's doubles at the Caribbean Regional Badminton Confederation's individual open tournament. Reid and Nichol won the gold medal at both the 2005 and 2004 Pam American Championships, as well as the 2004 Uber Cup Continental Stage (in Pan America). In 1998, Reid was a member of the Canadian Commonwealth Games Team Malaysia. Defended Canadian national titles in singles and doubles. First woman to win back-to-back titles singles and doubles titles since 1978. (2/07)
