Temeka Johnson/ Basketball

Temeka Johnson is a highly decorated professional basketball player for the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) and currently plays for the Los Angeles Sparks. In 2006, Johnson was ranked second in the WNBA in assists, third in total assists and 13th in total steals. In 2005, Johnson was the WNBA Rookie of the Year, averaging 9.2 points per game and 5.2 assists as well as a member of the All-Rookie Team. Also in 2005, Johnson was the sixth overall selection in the 2005 WNBA Draft and started all 34 games for the Washington Mystics. Johnson finished 2005 ranked second in the WNBA in assists averaging 5.2 per game and tallied more total assists than anyone in the league with 177. In her rookie year, Johnson finished first in scoring, assists, steals and minutes played as well as finishing second in free throw percentage and fourth in field goal percentage. Johnson is also a member of the 2003 gold-medal-winning USA World Championship Young Women team. Her college career at Louisiana State University (LSU) was highly successful with Johnson receiving All-America honorable mention honors in 2002, 2003 and 2004. Johnson was the Southeastern Conference's (SEC) Tournament Most Valuable Player in 2003 and made the SEC First Team in 2004 and 2005. After leading LSU to the Final Four in 2004 and 2005, Johnson finished her career at LSU in 2005 as the school's all-time assist leader. Also in 2005, Johnson won the Nancy Lieberman Award for best point guard in the country. Johnson is currently preparing for her third WNBA season with the Sparks. (04/07)
