Kim Hayashi is the 2007 National Bicycle League (NBL) Elite Women's Champion, winning the title for a history-making fifth year in a row. She is currently ranked No. 1 in the United States, No. 2 in North America, and No. 8 in the world by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). She has been riding well in 2007, with seven top-five finishes so far this year, including victories at the Victoria International in May and the Crabtree International in July. In 2006, Hayashi was a member of the U.S. national team that competed in the 2006 UCI BMX World Championships, placing seventh in the elite women category. In 2005, Hayashi was ranked No. 1 in the National Bicycle League (NBL) in elite women and No. 4 in the UCI in elite women. Hayashi, the NBL champion from 2003-2006, was one of the nominees for the 2005 Pro Racer of the Year Award. Hayashi is the 2004 UCI World Champion in junior women, and the American Bicycle Association (ABA) Girl Pro World Champion. Hayashi has been racing since 1998 and was ranked No.1 at the NBL Nationals in 2000. Since 1998, Hayashi has won races at the Gold Cup, Race of Champions, district and national age group racing competitions. Hayashi is an ambassador for the Women's Sports Foundation's GoGirlGo! project, as well as camp counselor for BMX camps in Marquette, Mich., and Walla Walla, Wash. In addition to counseling, Hayashi is a mentor for the Racegirl BMX League's GoGirlGo! project. She is also featured in the Foundation's book "Superwomen: 100 Women - 100 Sports." Presently, Hayashi serves as a trainer for the All Girls Clinics and the Avalanche Racing Clinics. Hayashi has wanted to go to the Olympic Games since she was a little girl, and as a current student at Arizona State, she now has her eyes on the 2008 Games. (11/07)
