Lindsey Harding became the first Duke player to be chosen No. 1 in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) draft, in 2007. Currently playing for the Minnesota Lynx, she was selected to the 2007 WNBA All-Rookie team, as she led all WNBA rookies in scoring (11.6 points per game). She also led all rookies in combined points, assists and rebounds per game with a 19.9 average. Harding finished her four-year career at Duke University (2002-07) as the school's all-time leader in assists (579) and wins (128). She was only the second Duke player (Alana Beard was the first) and sixth Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) player to register more than 1,000 points, 500 assists, 500 rebounds and 250 steals. In her senior season (2006-07), she was named the Naismith and ESPN.com National Player of the Year. Harding received the inaugural Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) National Defensive Player of the Year Award. She also won the John R. Wooden Award as the most outstanding women's college basketball player and was a U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) and Kodak All-America.
As a junior (2005-06), Harding was the ACC Defensive Player of the Year. She earned All-ACC Defensive Team honors and was one of 12 nominees for the Nancy Lieberman Step-Up Award, which recognizes the top point guard in the nation, in her sophomore season (2003-04). As a freshman (2002-03), she set a new Duke freshman record with 124 assists, and her 68 steals ranked second all-time among the school's first-year players. Harding was a four-year starter at CY-Fair High School (Cypress, Texas) and earned first team All-District honors each year. She was also ranked 14th nationally by the All-Star Girls Report in the 2002 senior class. Harding received the Robin Roberts/WBCA Broadcasting scholarship in her senior season at Duke.
