Becky Hammon/ Basketball

Becky Hammon is a guard for the Women's National Basketball Association's (WNBA) 2002 Eastern Conference champion, the New York Liberty. Hammon has played in all 32 Liberty games for the past three consecutive seasons. This feat has placed her fourth on the Liberty's all-time career list of games played. During this year's WNBA Finals, Hammon averaged 13.5 points per game off the bench versus the defending world champion Los Angeles Sparks. She hit her career high of 22 points twice this season. In the past, Hammon has placed fourth in the 2001 All-Star voting for guards in the Eastern Conference. Hammon completed the 2001 season ranked among the top 20 in the league for field-goal percentage (No.17, .457), three-point field-goal percentage (No.18, .378) and three-point field-goals made (No.12, 42). The highlight of her first year in the WNBA came when she scored 20 points for the Liberty in Game 2 of the 1999 WNBA Championship Series against Houston. Collegiately, she was named to both the Associated Press and Sports Illustrated All-America first teams in 1999. Hammon surpassed Keith Van Horn as the Western Athletic Conference's (WAC) all-time leading scorer with 2,740 points while she was at Colorado State University. (10/02)
