Nancy Feagin/
Climbing
One of the foremost women rock climbers in the world, Nancy Feagin became the only woman to climb the Salathe Route on Yosemite's El Capitan in one day (3,400 vertical feet). In 1995, she and two partners climbed El Capitan's Triple Direct Route in just 27 hours -- a route most climbers take three days to complete. In 1993, Feagin completed 20 of North America's Classic Climbs in 20 days. The previous year, she placed third in the World Cup Speed Climbing Competition. Feagin has made numerous solo ascents of wall climbs in Zion National Park, some of which have required sleeping on a cot hanging 1000 feet up in the air. (8/97)
