Ellen Estes/ Water Polo

Ellen Estes helped lead the U.S. National Women's Water Polo Team to the bronze medal over Australia at the 2004 Olympic Games by scoring three goals in the final game. She was also a member of the 2000 U.S. water polo team, which won the silver medal in the first-ever women's water polo Olympic competition. A five-year national team veteran, Estes finished as the best center at the 2003 World Championships, scoring 13 goals in the tournament and scored six goals at the 2003 Pan American Games as the United States qualified for Athens with a first-place finish. A graduate of Stanford, Estes was a two-time NCAA women's water polo champion (2002, 2001). She was named a first-team All-American and received All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) honors her senior season. In 1998, was named the MPSF Player of the Year and Co-MVP of the MPSF tournament after leading Stanford to a second-place finish. She broke a school record with 93 goals and led the team in scoring in 25 of 35 games. Estes was named the 2002 and 2003 USA Water Polo/United States Olympic Committee Female Athletes of the Year. In 2003, she was a finalist for the Women's Sports Foundation Sportswoman of the Year Award and a nominee for the coveted Sullivan Award. Estes graduated from Stanford with a degree in mechanical engineering. (10/04)
