Dorothy Doyle/ Baseball

Dorothy "Snookie" Doyle was an All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) player for eight seasons on the successful Rockford Peaches (1944-1952). Doyle was one of the premier short stops in the league, and during her career was an All-Star team member four times, while leading her team several times in RBIs and at-bats. She helped lead her team to championship victories in 1945, 1948, 1949 and 1950, as well as second place in 1946 and 1952. Doyle credits her mom, who gave her a mitt and uniform for Christmas when she was 5, for her baseball career. After leaving the league, she returned to school and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in physical education from El Camino College in 1955, and then served as a physical education teacher and guidance counselor in California.
