Terry Donahue/ Baseball

A member of the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame, Terry Donahue served as an All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) catcher for three years (1946-1949). Donahue played baseball—at home, at school and in Moose Jaw, for the Moose Jaw Royals. Scouted while playing for the Moose Jaw Royals, Donahue was asked if she would like to attend spring training in 1946 to try to make the AAGPBL. Donahue agreed to try out and she was recruited to the league. During her time with the AAGPBL, she was a utility player, playing every position except first and pitcher, although she most often served as catcher. She regards earning a position in the league and becoming a professional baseball player as the highlight of her career. When asked for guidance by young women who want to become professional ballplayers, Donahue advised, "I would say go for it; it is a great experience, you play the game you love and also have the chance to form great friendships that continue over the years. I feel very honored to have played in such a wonderful league with such a great group of women." (9/08)
