Shelia Burrell/ Track/Field

Shelia Burrell is presently the 2003 USA outdoor champion. Burrell has won this title twice before (1999, 2002) along with World Outdoor Championship bronze medal (2002). In 2001, Burrell won the bronze medal at the World Championships with a personal best mark of 6472, and placed second at the USA Outdoors. That same year, she won at Talence (6454) and was ranked No. 1 in the United States and No. 4 in the world. Burrell place second in the Olympic trials in 2000 (6339) and fourth at the Gotzis (6422). Burrell graduated from UCLA in 1995 with two degrees, one in English/American studies and one in history. Burrell was named to All-State teams in basketball, track and volleyball in high school. Burrell is currently an assistant track coach at Kansas State. (10/03)
