Heidi Burge/ Basketball

Heidi Burge is a forward with the Washington Mystics of the Women's National Basketball Association. She scored a career-high 19 points in the Mystics' game against the Phoenix Mercury in August 1998. A year earlier, Burge completed her inaugural season with the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks. She grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds and scored nine points against the Phoenix Mercury. She posted 14 points (6-9 field goals) and 9 rebounds in a 75-68 victory over the Utah Starzz.

Prior to playing with the Sparks, Burge was overseas as a member of the Panathinaikos Basketball Club in Greece. She also played for Cariparma in Italy (1995-96), GYSEV-Sopron in Hungary (1994-95) and ASMontferrand in France (1993-94). While at Virginia, Burge helped to lead her team to three ACC Championships and three consecutive NCAA Final Four appearances. Throughout her collegiate career, she shot over 40 percent from the field and 66 percent from the free throw line.

A gold medalist at the 1990 Olympic Festival, Burge was an integral member of her team at the World University Games in 1993. She is listed in the Guiness Book of World Records as one of the two tallest female identical twins in the world at 6-5. Her sister Heather played basketball with Heidi at Virginia. (2/99)
