Katie Brown/ Climbing

Katie Brown is considered to be one of the best climbers in the world, male or female. She placed first at the 2000 U.S. Bouldering Competition. In 1999, she placed first at the World Cup and was fifth overall in the World Cup rankings. In 1998, she won the Spring Nationals and took home her third X Games gold medal in women's sport climbing's difficulty category. That same year, Brown placed first at the American Sport Climbing Federation (ASCF) National Championships in New York and Denver, and the International Invitational. In 1997, she placed first in the International Masters competition. Her first international win came in October 1995, when she took first place in the 14-15 age group at the Junior World Championships in France. (10/00)
