Compiled by Barbara Colombo-Adams, gender equity trainer located in Holden, Mass., this resource can be used by girls or parents and coaches of girls' sports. Books recommended by Colombo-Adams are divided by sport and are perfect for the young reader. She also provides a list of recommended popular sport movies and provides discussion questions. For parents and coaches, included are sport and game instructional book and video recommendations and suggestions on where to purchase sports equipment.

Barbara Colombo-Adams is a gender equity training and technical assistance consultant to schools, youth programs and organizations. Her work over the past 20 years has focused on after-school care and youth program management and curriculum development. In the 1990s she conducted graduate research at the University of Maine on the influence of gender stereotypes on children's activity choices. Most recently, she is the principle author of a national sports and gender equity curriculum and training project for coed youth programs entitled: Achieving Gender Equity in the Gym and on the Playing Field, sponsored by the IBM Corporation
