In commemoration of the 30th anniversary of Title IX, the Women's Sports Foundation joined the National Coalition For Women and Girls in Education (NCWGE) to call for a renewed commitment from Congress to uphold and enforce the protections guaranteed to women and girls under Title IX. The NCWGE's report, Title IX at 30: A Report Card on Gender Equity, was released at a press conference in Washington, D.C., on June 13, 2002, showing there is still room for vast improvement.
Athletics earned only a C+ in the report stating, among other things, that in 2002, female coaches head less than half of women's intercollegiate teams and receive an average of 61 cents to the dollar in comparison with male coaches' salaries. Female athletes receive $133 million less in college athletic scholarships than male athletes.
