Tamara's life changed when she developed a new perception of herself.
Tamara was 16 years old and was coping with her stressful days by smoking, eating unhealthy foods and not exercising. As a result of this, she struggled with her weight. She relied on men to give her feelings of self-worth. Then Tamara joined a GoGirlGo! program in her hometown. She enjoyed the stories in the curriculum and related well to many of the problems presented by the book and in group discussions. Tamara changed her diet when she learned the adverse health effects of soda and sugary drinks. GoGirlGo! also taught her how she could exercise without a gym membership, and she began to exercise on her own and even taught her mother and sister. Shifting her focus in school as well, Tamara received honor roll for the next two terms.
A staff member at her GoGirlGo! program connected Tamara to an internship opportunity at the hospital nearby, and they helped her submit her application and go through the interview process. Tamara was chosen for the position and gets to work at the hospital, exploring her goal of becoming a pediatric nurse.

Let her see you making physical activity part of your life. Be a real-life hero as she sees you jogging that extra lap, attempting that 3-point shot, striking that yoga pose.
