Dear friends and supporters,
Over the past year we have made great strides in achieving our mission to advance the lives of girls and women in sports and physical activity:
• In 2006 RYKÄ grant presented a $10,000 grant and running shoes to the women who participate in fitness classes held at the African Services Committee. The Co-Executive Director of the African Services Committee, Kim Nichols, was thrilled to receive a RYKÄ Women's Fitness Grant on behalf of her organization. It was great to find a grant that supported fitness. Fitness gives the female participants a sense of independence and spirits arise!
• From the East Lake Foundation/Drew Charter School, a 2006 GoGirlGo! Atlanta grantee One of our third grade students, Dnerica, struggled at the beginning of the year with shyness and a lack of confidence. She rarely spoke up in class. However, according to our GoGirlGo! facilitator, she began to laugh and talk with the other girls during the GoGirlGo! class sessions. Now, she will speak up when she has something to contribute to the conversation and will take risks because, according to Dnerica, ‘GoGirls at least try!' People walking by the classroom stop to watch her energetic dance moves. She has used GoGirlGo! as a place where she can shine and be confident.
Our mission is endless as we continue to stand up for the rights of women in sports and encourage girls and women to get active and be healthy. On behalf of all the girls and women we serve, we want to take this opportunity to thank you for keeping our mission alive!
Warm regards,
