The Women’s Sports Foundation, a national nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, is accepting online applications for a part-time Public Policy internship position for sessions running June-August 2009, August-December and January-May. Responsibilities include working with Public Policy Department on its legislative initiatives and on gender equity cases. Interns will be under the direction of the Foundation’s Public Policy Director. Interns work in the Foundation’s D.C.-area office (Bethesda, Md.) 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The intern position is non-paid, but participants may obtain college/university credit.
The Public Policy Intern will assist the Foundation’s Public Policy Department with research and writing to support its gender equity cases and legislative initiatives. Additionally, the intern will help maintain the public policy section of the Foundation’s Web site, identify and record relationships with key strategic partners, and research/write articles and position statements on different issues pertaining to gender equity in sports.

The Legal Advocacy Intern will assist the Foundation’s Public Policy Department with legal research and writing regarding all inquiries from parents, coaches, athletes and administrators related to Title IX, the Amateur Sports Act and other gender equity situations in women’s sports. Responsibilities will also include drafting Foundation positions papers, articles and news stories on cases and current issues in women’s sports. Additionally, the intern will prepare correspondence to encourage schools and organizations to comply with gender equity laws.
